Volunteer of the Year 2007

Jim Brady

Jim Brady was named Pearson Air Museum's 2007 Volunteer of the Year at the Membership Holiday Party and Smithsonian Preview Night held at the museum on December 14th. A volunteer since 1996, Jim has taken part in many activities and functions over the years, most recently serving as the museum librarian.

An Air Force veteran, Jim retired after working over 33 years in law enforcement, most recently with the Los Angeles Police Department. Upon retirement Jim and his wife Evy moved to the Pacific Northwest, returning to the land of Jim's youth. They spend their free time going for country rides on their side-car motorcycle or enjoying their second home on the Wind River in Skamania County.

Jim's aviation knowledge has been invaluable over the years. His sense of humor is legendary, most likely cultivated after years of working along side Vancouver City Council Woman Pat Jollota at the LAPD.

As 2007 Volunteer of the Year, Jim was awarded a leather flight jacket and his name has been added to the other prestige's names engraved on the Dorothy Mercer Volunteer of the Year Award plaque that hangs in our Tex Rankin Theatre. Look for Jim's picture in upcoming ads for the museum in the Columbian newspaper!

New Mowers Donated to Pearson
They say nothing runs like a Deere. Those of us at the museum know this to be true as we have just taken possession of two brand new John Deere Z225-Zero Turn Radius lawn mowers donated by the nephews of 2005 Pearson Volunteer of the Year, Gerry Miller. The purpose of these mowers, is not to keep the grass short, but rather as a powered frame for two new parade floats. "Our plan is to build two open cockpit aircraft that will sit on the mowers allowing us to dogfight our way through regional parades," said Brian Taylor, Pearson Volunteer, Project Forman and Resident Genius.

Similar in concept to the Shriners and their small clown cars, these "floats" are sure to be a instant hit with the public. Plans call for a Voisin design for one of the mowers, and we are excepting suggestions for the design for the second mower. Contact the museum with your suggestions or to volunteer to work on this fun project.
